After months and months of rumors and uncertainty, we’ve arrived at the rather expected destination. Enzo Fernández is leaving. He’s not going to Real Madrid; he’s not going to PSG. Instead, he’s reuniting with Enzo Maresca at Manchester City. Like two peas in a pod, them two.

We would’ve certainly preferred to get this deal done two weeks ago, when we set a deadline for City to bid at £120m. They chose not to. Instead, they’ve chosen to pay £5m more to match the British transfer record, and get it done now. Will never understand who benefits from that sort of decision-making. Certainly not Chelsea, as we now have absolutely no time to get any sort of replacement — Lamine Camara and Manu Koné have both been ruled out, as was Alex Scott some time ago.

So we’ll have to make do with our in-house options, which could be fine as long as Moisés Caicedo and Roméo Lavia stay healthy and Valentín Barco continues to develop. Too bad we let Andrey Santos go earlier in this summer…

In any case, worst of luck to you, Enzo and Enzo. Thanks for a few good times.
