The Chicago Bears didn't wait long to bring back one of their most impactful performers from the preseason. Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports that the Bears have re-signed defensive tackle James Lynch just one day after releasing him as part of final roster cuts.
Lynch joined the Bears as a free agent earlier this offseason following a stint with the Tennessee Titans. He made a strong impression during training camp and consistently made plays throughout the preseason. In three games, Lynch totaled four tackles, two QB hits, and a pass defensed while playing with the reserves.
Last week, head coach Ben Johnson discussed the defensive line being a stronger group than people give them credit for, in part because of Lynch. His strong play also made Gervon Dexter expendable as the Bears dealt him to the Atlanta Falcons for a 2027 fifth-round pick and cornerback Clark Phillips III.
Biggs notes more roster moves are coming, especially with the expectation that tight end Hayden Large and safety Coby Bryant wind up on injured reserve.
