Patriots claim two players on waivers, including former 3rd-round pick

The New England Patriots claimed linebacker Darius Muasau and tight end Cameron Latu on waivers Monday, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

As of right now, the corresponding move to the claims is the team reportedly releasing veteran linebacker K.J. Britt, who made the initial 53-man roster on Sunday. The Patriots will need to release one more player to make room for both of their new roster claims.

Muasau, a former sixth-round draft pick, appeared in 28 games for the New York Giants over the last two seasons. He has 18 starts under his belt with 106 tackles, one sack and one pass defended. The 25-year-old defender is projected to be the Patriots' new No. 3 linebacker right out of the gate.

Latu is a bonus addition to the tight end room for New England. The former third-round pick out of the University of Alabama hasn't taken off as expected at the NFL level, and he'll now have an opportunity to change the narrative on his professional career in New England.

Mike Vrabel should be familiar with him considering they were both together with the Cleveland Browns in 2024, when the Patriots' head coach served as a coaching and personnel consultant.
