The NBA has the Bob Lanier Community Assist Award, which is meant to honor players who take an active role in helping their communities. However, some players might have been prevented from becoming eligible for the award, at least according to Jaylen Brown.
The Philadelphia 76ers star recently visited Massachusetts, where he was presented with a key to the city and personally honored by Mayor Michelle Wu for his community work in the city. He was also honored with a custom street sign that read “Jaylen Brown Way.”
After that, he hopped onto his Twitch stream and discussed Black players’ advocacy, among other things. The NBA intentionally wants its players to do civic work outside of basketball.
However, according to JB, some players are being prevented from doing so. He mentioned this while discussing his intention to build a Black Wall Street. He shared that he has already started the work, including making an investment.
He needed other players to join him, but he claimed they were scared away by some corporations working within the league.
“They’re steering them away from helping the people in the situation they came from, because there’s no benefit for these people that are representing,” Brown said in his stream.

It’s super weird, and it takes a real strong mind and some real courage to even go against it, because then they label they label me like they said I had a disease.”
Brown is yet to win the NBA Community Assist Award.
Jaylen Brown points to Cowlin CowherdBrown has been attacked by some media personalities over his character. There’s Stephen A. Smith, whom he called a clown and said is not doing journalism.
Another prominent analyst is Colin Cowherd, who accused the 76ers star of acting like he is the smartest person in the room.
Brown specifically named Cowherd as one of those being used by corporations to prevent players from helping their communities.
“There’s this crazy narrative that I feel like I’m the smartest in the room, I got a disease. Cowlin Cowherd, to quote him, “got a disease according to one of his sources. These people are crazy, bro,” he continued.
“Corporations, they’re lying to us. They’re putting propaganda out that’s not even true. That’s why I started streaming in the first place. This industry can be so corrupt, bro.”
