Ketel Marte surprisingly 'wasn't expecting' D-backs fan reaction after no-show

The bizarre Ketel Marte situation had its final chapter on Monday night, with the former All-Star returning to Chase Field for the first time since his unexplained absence. He spoke to reporters after going AWOL -- which included a trip to the restricted list -- and apparently apologized to teammates.

And then? He faced the music with fans, who mostly booed him when he was announced in the lineup and when he came to bat. And, for some reason, the reaction surprised him a bit.

“I wasn’t expecting that type of reaction from the fans,’’ Marte said after the D-backs' 2-1 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies. “It felt a little strange in my first at-bat, but that’s hopefully going to go away.’’

Perhaps if he produces for a team that's competing for a Wild Card spot, he'll hear different reactions from fans.
