The annual Hood to Coast Relay, one of the most anticipated events in the running calendar, saw participants from around the world converge on Seaside, Oregon, to showcase their endurance and teamwork. Starting early on Saturday morning, around 6:30 a.m., runners and walkers alike crossed the finish line, culminating a grueling 199-mile journey from Mount Hood to the coast.
In the Men's Open division, Team Lost Boys emerged victorious, completing the course in a remarkable time of 17 hours, 27 minutes, and 38 seconds. Their performance not only secured them the top spot but also set a new record, achieving an impressive race pace of 5 minutes and 20 seconds per mile. This victory was particularly significant as it surpassed the previous record of 5:40 per mile, which they themselves had set in 2024.
Following closely behind, Team DDMF TC finished in second place, clocking in at 17 hours and 48 minutes. Meanwhile, the Bowerman Track Club claimed victory in the Mixed Corporate Open division with a time of 17 hours and 57 minutes. Several other teams, including the Michigan Running Club, Dojo of Pain, RMTC, and Run Long and Prosper, also delivered outstanding performances, each maintaining a pace of 5:40 per mile or better.
The Women's Open division showcased a thrilling competition, with Team VO2 Min clinching first place by finishing the race in 21 hours and 20 seconds. Their victory was a narrow one, as they edged out second-place team Doja, who finished just four seconds later at 21 hours and 24 seconds. Both teams demonstrated exceptional speed, with VO2 Min averaging a 6:31 mile pace compared to Doja's 6:33.
The Portland To Coast Walking Relay also witnessed impressive displays of endurance. Team Loud and Proud took home the title in the Men's Open Division, completing the relay in 23 hours and 57 minutes. In the Mixed Submasters category, Reshod Squad via Reshod Walking Shoes emerged victorious, while Stale Buns won the Mixed Masters division. The Women’s Open division saw Team Manic Mommies claim victory with a time of 26 hours and 23 minutes.
This year’s Hood to Coast Relay not only highlighted the competitive spirit of the participants but also reinforced the event's reputation as a premier relay race that attracts teams from various backgrounds and skill levels. As runners and walkers celebrated their achievements at the finish line, the camaraderie and community spirit that defines this iconic race were on full display.
