Was that NC State performance as bad as it looked? You bet it was! All this purple from the advanced box score really puts a nice bow on things, I’d say.

It’s just about impossible to find something to be encouraged about in this effort, which we’ll have to hope will prove to be NC State’s worse of the season. The defense was good on third downs, and hey, special teams had a pretty good day, but other than that … best to just toss all of this into the nearest trash can.

The offense had just 51 scrimmage plays and averaged 21 yards per drive, accumulating just 30% of the yards available to it for the game.

Both of CJ Bailey’s turnovers were worth -4ish points in terms of EPA. The second those coming inside the UVA 10, with State already down 17 and its win probability under 10%, was every bit as back-breaking as it appeared at the time. Nothing but pain across the board.
