We could say Max Osgood is following his father’s footsteps in Medicine Hat this week if not for the fact that he doesn’t go anywhere near goalie pads.
His father is Chris Osgood who won 401 games as an NHL goalie, most of them with the Detroit Red Wings. The Medicine Hat Tigers drafted Max as a forward with the 21st pick in the first round of the most recent WHL draft.
At 15, he’s too young to make the team, but he is participating in his first Tigers camp. That comes 37 years after Osgood played his first of three seasons in Medicine Hat (1989-90 to 1991-92).
Chris Osgood’s mom, Joy, still lives in Medicine Hat. Even though Max won’t play for the Tigers this season, he will stay there and play for the South Alberta Hockey Academy’s U18 team. The hope is he will practice with the Tigers as time permits in the upcoming season.

“I love (Medicine Hat) so, so much,” Max told Medicine Hat News sportswriter James Tubbs. “The city is awesome, the rink is awesome, the fans are awesome, everyone’s awesome.”
Max (5-9, 141 pounds), played in the Little Caesars program. Last season, he totaled 15 goals and 28 assists for 43 points in 20 games for the Little Caesars 14U AAA team.
The younger Osgood showed he is a clutch performer when he scored with 41 seconds left in regulation to help Little Caesars win the 2026 14U National Championship with a 5-4 win against the Rhode Island Junior Mounties.

Just exactly who is Jeff Kealty and why is he a candidate to replace Steve Yzerman?
Red Wings ExtraIf you are a candidate to be the next Red Wings new director of hockey operations, you have to thinking that it will likely cost at least $9.5 million to re-sign Simon Edvinsson and probably $12 million to prevent Alex DeBrincat from going to free agency next summer. The price of poker has gone up since the Steve Yzerman departure. With the salary cap projected to go up $9.5 million (to $113.5 million) next season, the Red Wings can easily accommodate the raises. Meanwhile, DeBrincat is working on his game. Will he be on a line with Lucas Raymond this season?
