Former LSU football defensive end Jack Pyburn got waived by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday. The move, coupled with multiple court rulings, opens Pyburn to a potential return to Baton Rouge.
Dae'Quan Wright and Zxavian Harris were the first two former pro players to commit to LSU. Both signed undrafted free agent contracts with NFL teams before being waived. Pyburn may increase that number to three.
A judge granted Pyburn a temporary restraining order, which allows him to return to college for the 2026 season. It came after a class-wide preliminary injunction allowed 2022 high school graduates to use their eligibility for a fifth year. The ruling came in response to the NCAA's five-for-five rule, granting athletes five years of eligibility after they turn 19.

Pyburn played three seasons at Florida and one at LSU. Other schools would bid for his services, too, as he would enter the transfer portal. He led the NFL preseason with four sacks. Through four seasons of college football, he totaled 132 tackles, including 10.5 for loss and three sacks.
