The New Orleans Saints are adding more experience to their practice squad, as they officially signed wide receiver Cedric Tillman and tight end Stone Smartt on Tuesday.
Tillman gives the Saints an intriguing depth option at wide receiver. The six-foot-three receiver was originally selected by the Cleveland Browns in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft out of Tennessee.
He spent three seasons in Cleveland, appearing in 38 games with 19 starts and recording 71 receptions for 833 yards and five touchdowns. Last season, Tillman caught 21 passes for 270 yards and two touchdowns in 13 games.
His size and experience could make him an interesting developmental piece for New Orleans, particularly with the release of Kevin Austin Jr. earlier this week.
Smartt provides additional depth at tight end. The six-foot-four, 226-pounder spent the first three seasons of his career with the Los Angeles Chargers before joining the New York Jets last season. He’s hauled in 38 receptions for 432 yards and one touchdown across 53 career games.
Adding Smartt gives New Orleans another experienced option who can continue developing on the practice squad while remaining available if the team needs additional insurance during the season.
The Saints are still constructing their roster ahead of the season opener against the Detroit Lions, so expect to see more moves soon.
