In a significant announcement, Major League Baseball unveiled its 2027 spring training schedule, which promises to be an exciting season for fans, particularly with the Los Angeles Dodgers and Los Angeles Angels rekindling their rivalry. This year also marks a pivotal transition for the Angels, as they enter a new ownership era under Stan Kroenke, while the Oakland Athletics gear up for their anticipated final season in Sacramento before relocating to Las Vegas.

Spring training will officially kick off on February 19, 2027, with all 30 MLB teams participating in either the Cactus League or Grapefruit League. Fans can look forward to a full slate of games on the inaugural day, which will culminate in several exhibition matches across major and minor league parks from March 20 to March 23. Among these, the Dodgers and Angels will face off in a three-game series that is sure to draw attention from Southern California baseball enthusiasts.

The Freeway Series will begin with the Dodgers hosting the Angels at Dodger Stadium on March 21, followed by two consecutive games at Angel Stadium on March 22 and March 23. These matchups will serve as crucial preparation for both teams ahead of the 2027 regular season, which is set to commence with an Opening Night game on Netflix on March 24.

In addition to the Southern California clashes, the Dodgers and Angels will also meet twice in Arizona during spring training. The Dodgers will travel to face the Angels on February 22, and later host them on March 9, bringing their total spring meetings to five. The Dodgers will kick off their Cactus League schedule against the Chicago White Sox on February 19 at Camelback Ranch, with additional games lined up against teams such as the Kansas City Royals, Seattle Mariners, and Milwaukee Brewers.

The 2027 season will be particularly noteworthy for the Dodgers, as it represents their first full campaign following another shortened offseason. The franchise has established itself as a dominant force in Major League Baseball, and their spring training schedule includes two games against the Athletics, on February 26 and March 19, as well as several matchups against National League West rivals.

For the Angels, the upcoming spring training will provide a glimpse into the future of a franchise poised for change under Stan Kroenke and Kroenke Sports & Entertainment. Kroenke's acquisition of a controlling interest in the Angels from the Moreno family is expected to finalize in early 2027, pending MLB approval. This transition marks the end of Arte Moreno's ownership, which began in 2003, and comes at a time when the Angels have not reached the postseason since 2014.

The Angels will open their spring training against the Milwaukee Brewers on February 19 and will host their first home game against the Cleveland Guardians the following day. They will also meet the Athletics for the first time on February 27, as the team looks to improve under new leadership. The Angels’ spring schedule includes additional games against the San Francisco Giants, San Diego Padres, and Chicago Cubs.

Meanwhile, the Athletics are preparing for what is expected to be their final season in Sacramento, having played at Sutter Health Park since leaving Oakland in 2024. They will open their Cactus League schedule against the Chicago Cubs on February 19 and face the Dodgers and Angels multiple times throughout spring training. The team's agreement to play in Sacramento extends through the 2027 season, with plans to move to Las Vegas in 2028.

As the 2027 regular season approaches, the anticipation builds with an Opening Night matchup on Netflix on March 24, followed by a traditional Opening Day featuring 14 games on March 25, marking the start of another thrilling MLB season.
