Following the conclusion of the 2025-26 season, where the Thunder achieved a franchise record with 20 sellouts and averaged 4,539 fans per game, the organization has announced significant changes in its leadership. Jeff Mead, who served as the president and general manager of both the Thunder and Harding Mazzotti Arena, is no longer with the team.
The announcement of Mead's departure was made by the Adirondack Civic Center Coalition, which manages the arena, in a news release issued on Labor Day Weekend. The timing of the release has raised eyebrows, as it is often seen as a strategic move to minimize media coverage during a holiday weekend. The coalition did not provide specific reasons for Mead's exit, leaving fans and stakeholders curious about the circumstances surrounding the decision.
Taking over Mead's responsibilities is Tadd Sipowicz, the Thunder's chief revenue officer, who has been appointed as the interim general manager of Harding Mazzotti Arena and the interim president of the Thunder. Daniel T. Burke, the president of the Civic Center Coalition and a retired leader from NBT Bank, expressed confidence in Sipowicz's ability to handle the increased responsibilities. "We are very pleased that Tadd is prepared to step up and take on these increased responsibilities, and we look forward to another record Adirondack Thunder season," Burke stated, though he notably did not mention Mead in his remarks.
Jeff Mead had a notable tenure with the Thunder, having joined the organization in 2017 and earning recognition as the ECHL Executive of the Year for the 2023-24 season. His leadership coincided with a period of growth for the Thunder, culminating in a strong performance last season where the team finished with a record of 37 wins, 24 losses, and 10 overtime losses, placing them third in the North Division and securing a spot in the Kelly Cup Playoffs.
