The Alabama men’s basketball program has announced the return of Alex Accetta, who will serve as the director of program relations. This significant addition was made public on Thursday, September 3, and marks Accetta's return to the Crimson Tide after a successful tenure with the team from 2015 to 2022.
During her previous time with Alabama, Accetta progressed from a student assistant to the operations coordinator in 2017, ultimately becoming the director of operations in 2021. Her experience in the program coincides with the beginning of Nate Oats’ coaching tenure in Tuscaloosa, which started in 2019. After leaving Alabama, Accetta took her talents to the NBA, where she worked with the Dallas Mavericks in guest experience and business operations from 2022 until 2026.
Accetta's return is particularly noteworthy as she brings a wealth of knowledge from both collegiate and professional basketball settings. Shane Lyons, the executive deputy athletic director and chief operating officer for Alabama basketball, expressed confidence in Accetta's capabilities, stating, "Alex has an extensive background and proven success in this space at both the collegiate and professional levels. With her previous experience, she has a strong understanding of our program and what it takes to effectively operate at the highest competitive levels." Lyons emphasized that Accetta's insights from her time with the Mavericks would be invaluable for the program moving forward.
In addition to Accetta's appointment, Alabama also announced the promotion of Josh Pierre, who has moved from director of operations to director of player development. This restructuring is part of the program's ongoing efforts to enhance its operational effectiveness and player support as they prepare for the upcoming season.
Accetta's marriage to Nate Oats took place on July 26, 2026, adding a personal dimension to her role within the program. However, it is important to note that she will report directly to Shane Lyons rather than her husband, maintaining a professional boundary within the organization.
The Crimson Tide are looking to build on their recent successes and continue their upward trajectory in NCAA basketball. With Accetta's return and the changes in the coaching staff, Alabama aims to strengthen its competitive edge and enhance the overall experience for its players.
