In a recent conversation with Sergey Demidov of RG.org, Markov expressed his confidence in the Canadiens' prospects. His belief stems from a discussion he had with head coach Martin St. Louis during a visit last season. Markov noted St. Louis's positive assessment of the players' willingness to listen and improve, which he believes bodes well for the team's future.
“He said he really likes that the players listen, hear him, and want to get better,” Markov remarked. “So I think Montreal has a very promising team right now, and if nothing unexpected happens, they have good chances and a good future.”
The last time a Canadian team hoisted the Stanley Cup was in 1993 when the Canadiens triumphed over the Los Angeles Kings. Since then, teams like the Edmonton Oilers have come close but have been unable to break the curse. Markov reflected on the Oilers' missed opportunities, stating, “In recent years, Edmonton had a big chance, but they didn’t use it. Right now I would probably bet on Montreal.”
Last season, the Canadiens made strides by reaching the Eastern Conference Final, where they ultimately fell to the Carolina Hurricanes in five games. During that playoff run, captain Nick Suzuki emerged as a key offensive player, tallying 16 points in 19 games. The blue line also saw contributions from rookie Lane Hutson, who matched Suzuki's point total, showcasing the potential of Montreal's young talent.
Despite a strong regular season where Cole Caufield netted 51 goals, his playoff performance was less impactful, as he recorded only four points in the postseason. Caufield's ability to replicate his regular-season success will be critical for the Canadiens as they aim for a deeper playoff run in the future.

Markov praised Slafkovsky's development, stating, “You can see that now he feels more confident and shows the hockey people expected from him.”
