Andonian, who will officially join the Sparks next month, takes over the role previously held by Raegan Pebley, who was let go in mid-July after two and a half years with the organization. The Sparks, with a record of 15-25, have not secured a WNBA championship since 2016, despite their storied history that includes three titles.
At just 31 years old, Andonian brings a wealth of experience from her time in the NBA and G League. Most recently, she served as the general manager of the Delaware Blue Coats, the G League affiliate of the Philadelphia 76ers, where she also held the title of vice president of player personnel. Her extensive background in basketball operations, talent evaluation, and scouting spans over a decade, making her a well-qualified candidate for the Sparks' leadership role.
Eric Holoman, the Sparks' managing partner and governor, expressed confidence in Andonian's abilities, stating, "Ariana has distinguished herself throughout her career as an exceptional evaluator of talent and a thoughtful, forward-thinking basketball executive." Holoman emphasized that Andonian's vision for building both a team and a strong organizational culture was a key factor in their decision to hire her.
A California native, Andonian graduated from the University of Southern California and later earned an MBA from Duke University. During her time at Duke, she worked closely with legendary coach Mike Krzyzewski and current head coach Jon Scheyer as a player personnel consultant for the men's basketball program.
In her statement regarding her new role, Andonian highlighted the Sparks' commitment to their fan base, saying, "It was clear to me throughout this process that the Sparks ownership group is committed to delivering for our fans.
