The Arizona Cardinals made a trade before having to cut down their rosters to 53 players, acquiring a future draft pick. They announced that they traded running back Corey Kiner to the New England Patriots for a 2028 seventh-round pick.
Kiner wasn't expected to make the roster, so he gets to land on a 53-man roster with a chance to play, and the Cardinals get draft compensation for a player they weren't going to keep.
In the preseason, he rushed for 180 yards and two touchdowns, averaging 4.6 yards per carry.
Kiner joined the Cardinals last December, signed to their active roster off the practice squad of the Minnesota Vikings. In four games, he rushed for 58 yards on 12 attempts, and he caught two passes for 15 yards.
This move means one fewer cut for the Cardinals to make.
