Atletico Madrid have issued a fresh statement to confirm they will not negotiate with Barcelona over Julian Alvarez.
Barcelona have made a bid for the forward, who has said he wants to leave Atletico, and Joan Laporta has said “we’d like our offer accepted.”
Atletico have now issued a statement and say the Board of Directors “have unanimously shown their full support for the club’s decision not to negotiate the transfer of Julián Álvarez to FC Barcelona.”

Here’s the statement in full:
“Atlético de Madrid is open to negotiations typical of the transfer market, but always in an ethical and professional manner and with respect between the clubs. We fully support the position previously communicated by the club that FC Barcelona has not complied with these requirements and, consequently, there has been and will be no negotiation with them regarding the transfer of Julián Álvarez.”
The club also say that they are “confident that our player will understand the decision,” although it remains to be seen if that’s the case given the Argentina star made his feelings pretty clear during the World Cup.
Alvarez was absent from training on Wednesday, reportedly due to illness, and was conspicuous by his absence again on Thursday.
