Auburndale football wins 1st game of year; Polk scores, highlights

Auburndale football is off to a good start thanks to 57-0 blowout at home Friday over Ridge Community.

And it was all about senior quarterback Teo Edwards, who passed for 307 yards and four touchdowns. He also mustered 57 yards rushing.

Third-year head football coach Antonio Thomas was happy, but said his team needed to clean some things up heading into the second game of the season.

"It's a first for us. ... We got a lot to clean up. "We had about 16 penalties tonight. While we got the win, it's still a lot to clean up. We still got a long way to go as far as being where we need to be and competing against some of the teams in our district. We still got a long ways to go ...," Thomas said.

Still, the Bloodhounds, as a unit, had a dandy of a day. One of those spectacular plays was Isaiah Johnson's 81-yard kickoff return touchdown.

And defensively, Andy Westry had a pick-six.

Lake Wales 35, Sebring 0

Lake Wales was able to bounce back and register its first win of the season in shutout fashion.

Quarterback Kingston Loydd logged four touchdown passes in the contest, while running back Kamari Smith managed a rushing touchdown.

George Jenkins 55, Discovery 0

The Eagles jumped on Discovery early thanks to Sheldon Dennis returning the opening kickoff 91 yards for a touchdown, helping the squad improve to 2-0 on the year.

Quarterback Brayden Padgett was a perfect 4-for-4 on the day with 136 yards and three touchdowns. Running back Malik Raymond had 60 yards and two touchdowns, while running back Carldez Baker rushed the rock five times for 77 yards and a touchdown. And receiver Luke Martindale caught the ball twice for 73 yards and a touchdown.

Lake Gibson 36, Haines City 0

The Braves won its first game of the year in grand fashion thanks to the ariel assault of quarterback Caleb McFarland, who threw two touchdown passes to Stephon Bell. Raymond Diaz also ran for two touchdowns.

Lakeland Christian 49, Mclaughlin 0

In an encore that followed up a historic Week 1 victory, the Vikings executed a shutout in its Week 2 thanks to quarterback Brody Brenneman's three touchdown passes — two of them were to Cael Straub.

Running back AJ Truedell rushed for a touchdown.

Defensively, JD Wiggins registered two interceptions.

Seven Rivers Christian 34, All Saints 7

All Saints fell short, but running back Trey Bellotto put up a rushing touchdown.

Bartow 39, Kathleen 0

The Yellow Jackets tacked on its first win of the season thanks to Amire Hall's 10-for-14 for 131 yards and two touchdowns, while also rushing for 38 and two touchdowns.

Jacob Richardson tallied a fumble recovery for a touchdown.

Tenoroc 20, Central 0

The Titans are now 2-0 for the first time in a long time, thanks to a shutout win for the second straight week.

The victory included a 60-yard jet sweep touchdown from Demetrius Jones, a Chris Maxwell 2-yard touchdown run, a Jadarrion Manning 15-yard touchdown reception from quarterback Brexton Chapple and kicker John Koney's 2-for-3 on PATs performance.

Defensively, Tayvon Norton lead in tackles, while Chris Max put up two tackles for loss, and Sean Vachier racked up four quarterback hurries.
