Bastoni's 300 appearances for Inter

Head held high, eyes always looking forward. It’s the way Alessandro Bastoni plays, the way he approaches the game. He anticipates the movements of opposing forwards, reads their positioning when defending and, when the ball is at his feet, looks for the pass before the opportunity has even fully opened up. Always scanning, always thinking, always ready to put that left foot to work. But as he walked onto the pitch at the Unipol Domus in Cagliari, perhaps for a split second, Alessandro’s eyes looked back.

A blink of an eye was enough to take him back seven years, to 28 September 2019. The pitch was the Marassi, the opponents were Sampdoria and Bastoni was making his Inter debut. Another blink, and that memory became history: Cagliari vs Inter was Alessandro Bastoni’s 300th appearance in the Nerazzurri shirt.

A milestone that takes the defender, born in Casalmaggiore on 13 April 1999, ever higher among the Club’s greats. Another chapter in the story of a bond that has grown stronger with every passing season. Bastoni has become one of the faces and symbols of a passionate, winning Inter, making the Nerazzurri shirt a second skin and giving everything to it: quality, consistency, determination and sacrifice.

His Inter story began in the summer of 2017, when the Club signed him from Atalanta. After a season back in Bergamo on loan and a spell at Parma, the real adventure in Milano began in 2019. Strong, composed and technically gifted, Bastoni quickly established himself as a key figure in Inter’s back three, perfectly suited to a system that brought his qualities to the fore. On 19 January 2020, he scored his first Nerazzurri goal away to Lecce. By the end of his debut season, he had made 33 appearances and scored twice. Then came another step forward. His second season ended with his first Scudetto, with Bastoni playing a starring role throughout the campaign. He contributed at both ends of the pitch, setting up Barella and Skriniar in crucial victories over Juventus and Atalanta. A season to remember, made even more special by Italy’s triumph at EURO 2020.

From there, Bastoni’s status grew. The left side of Inter’s defence became his territory, and his left foot became one of the team’s most important weapons in possession. His playing style became distinct: he plays with personality and purpose, always looking to move the team forward. He overlaps, drives forward, tracks back and closes down. He sees the game before it happens. More memorable seasons followed. Inter returned to the top of Italian football twice more, with Bastoni once again at the heart of it all. In the Second-Star-winning season, he was named Serie A’s Best Defender, recognition of his outstanding campaign and the level he had reached. He claimed the award again the following season.

And then there were the European nights. Two Champions League finals, two places in the Champions League Team of the Season, in 2022/23 and 2024/25. Then came 2026 and the Double: the latest jewel in an already glittering collection. Three Coppa Italia titles, three Supercoppa Italianas and, with them, a place among the select group of just five players to have won all nine trophies lifted by Inter since 2020. Now the story reaches another landmark: 300 appearances. Seven unforgettable seasons that have marked the defender down as an Inter legend in the making. A blink of an eye can take you back seven years, but Bastoni’s eyes remain firmly fixed on what comes next.
