Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany is ready to get the journey in Germany’s top flight started.

“The feeling is exactly the same as the first time. I always have the belief in my mind that we can be successful in the end. But you’re never certain, and that also gives you energy. You have to start from scratch. In my mind, I have zero titles; I have to prove everything again. That gives me a lot of energy. The game against Stuttgart will be difficult; it’s a new season, there are new opportunities. That gives us the edge in our preparation. I’m looking forward to the new season,” said Kompany (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “Everything starts from scratch again, at least in my mind. It’s not my job to predict the final table. I hope we’re just as strong as last season and even better in some areas. We’ve already seen a strong Dortmund side; we’ll see how Stuttgart will be tomorrow. Dortmund will be very solid, and it wouldn’t surprise me if Stuttgart manages to be as well.”

Kompany did not shed too much light on what his lineup would look like, but did confirm that that Jamal Musiala is out. along with some other interesting news.

“Generally speaking, Jamal is doing relatively well. He’s participating in team training today. He won’t be in the squad tomorrow. He’s getting used to the increased medication. He’ll be back in the squad at some point and play. We’re making the decision in consultation with the experts. He’s doing well,” Kompany stated. “Lennart Karl is back tomorrow, but we’ll have to wait and see how big a role he can play. Ismael Saibari is making very good progress; we’ll see if he’ll start this time. We have so many games in the coming weeks, so we’ll decide after today’s training session. He’s not far from playing his first 90 minutes.”

When asked if he would start Nathaniel Brown at attacking midfield again like he did in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup, Kompany was non-committal.

“We saw the games where Raphaël Guerreiro also played in the number 10 role at times. The number 10 and full-back positions have many similarities in our attacking play. Therefore, it’s not unusual for Konrad Laimer, Raphaël Guerreiro, or Nene Brown to play there,” Kompany said. “He also played there in the youth teams. He’s planned as a full-back, but he can play many other positions. The same applies to Konrad Laimer. We have a strong squad; sometimes it’s better to have a few players who can play multiple positions than to have more players in the squad.”
