Bengals should consider targeting 3 early NFL cuts

Amid the chaos of final cuts, the Cincinnati Bengals figure to keep an eye on players shaking loose via league-wide cuts. 

Zac Taylor and the Bengals, after all, have plenty of needs remaining on the roster, no matter what the “final” 53 looks like. 

Spots like third running back and offensive tackle depth come to mind as potential depth issues. With trades, free agency and the waiver wire available to the Bengals, the front office figures to link with the coaching staff and review those options in the coming days and weeks. 

Zooming out, the following early release players from other teams might interest the Bengals. 

The situation behind Chase Brown and Samaje Perine hasn’t been all that encouraging this offseason. If the Bengals see a veteran option that might be an upgrade over Tahj Brooks, they might just take it. Hassan Haskins, 26, is a former fourth-round pick with some versatility to his game and plenty of experience as a thirdish back in a rotation. 

Bengals fans might still dream of Bobby Wagner as a depth option behind Demetrius Knight and Barrett Carter. But Jamin Davis might be a little more their speed. He’s a 27-year-old journeyman and former first-round pick who has some versatility to line up at end, not just linebacker. 

The Bengals moved on from Cody Ford and let the battle for swing backup tackle come down to Javon Foster and Jalen Rivers, which was good. But if somebody else becomes available with some upside, they might look his way. Christian Jones, a fifth-round pick by Arizona in 2024 (not to be confused with...Christian Jones, the undrafted free agent the Bengals signed this past April...), is a 6'5" prospect they might want to stash as a deep depth and developmental option.
