Channel 9’s next Big 22 Player to Watch has been around football for as long as he can remember.
Indian Land quarterback Matt Kucia said he first watched his father, a longtime coach and former quarterback, before discovering his own passion for the game prior to high school.

The Indian Land coaching staff noticed it, too. Kucia was named the starting quarterback his freshman season.
He said the ability to lead is part of why he enjoys the game as much as he does, along with winning.
Kucia told Channel 9’s DaShawn Brown anything short of a state title isn’t good enough, also setting big goals for himself.
“I want to say like 3,000 yards, 30-plus touchdowns and less than two turnovers,” he said. “And all-state, definitely.”
Apart from football, Matt Kucia said he’ll often challenge himself on the golf course. His older brother is a Division I golfer.
Kucia said the mental part of the game keeps him coming back.
“If you hit a bad shot, you have to bounce back and keep your head down and just grind,” he said. “Kind of like football.”
