Body-camera video shows 49ers owner Jed York's arrest in Ohio

Body-camera footage released Wednesday shows San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York being pulled from a rental vehicle, handcuffed and questioned by police during an undercover prostitution investigation in Ohio.

York, wearing a New York Yankees T-shirt, basketball shorts and sneakers, appears surprised as officers approach his Volkswagen SUV at a mobile home park in East Palestine, Ohio.

"Can I ask what you're doing?" York asks as officers place him in handcuffs, according to footage obtained and published by the New York Post.

An officer asks York whether he is meeting anyone. York responds that he is "just driving," the footage shows.

Police arrested York Sunday morning after he arrived at the mobile home community in response to an online advertisement posted as part of an undercover operation by the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force, according to an incident report obtained by the Chronicle.

York initially faced misdemeanor charges of engaging in prostitution and possessing criminal tools.

Prosecutors amended the prostitution charge to disorderly conduct, and York pleaded no contest Monday to disorderly conduct and possessing criminal tools in Columbiana County Municipal Court.

He was sentenced to one day in jail on both charges, to be served concurrently, with credit for time served, according to court records. He was fined $1,150.

The $160 seized from York was ordered forfeited to the task force, and his cellphone was returned. York also completed an online course as part of the resolution of the case.

The body-camera footage shows officers searching York's vehicle after his arrest. One officer comments on the amount of cash found inside, saying, "He's got a s-t ton of cash."

The footage also shows York in the back of a police cruiser. Officers later examined two phones found in the vehicle.

The Chronicle previously reported that York allegedly used the name "Joe" while responding to the undercover advertisement.

According to the incident report, he contacted the person who posted the ad over two days and agreed to pay $160 for an hour of sexual activity. He was given a fictitious lot number at the mobile home park and arrested after arriving, police said.

York, 46, has not publicly addressed the arrest.

The 49ers said Monday that they would not comment on the incident.

"As this is a legal matter, which has been resolved, we will not be providing any further comment at this time," the team said.

The NFL said it is reviewing the matter under its personal conduct policy, which applies to team owners as well as players and other personnel. No league discipline has been announced.

York was absent Wednesday from an NFL owners meeting in Atlanta. The 49ers were represented by CEO Al Guido.

Coach Kyle Shanahan said Tuesday that York has been living in Ohio this summer and has not attended training camp. Shanahan described the matter as personal and said it had not affected the team's football operations.

"It's a very, very personal situation," Shanahan said. "I'm trying as hard as I can to keep it that way."

York took over day-to-day control of the 49ers in 2008 and became the franchise's principal owner in 2024. He filed for divorce from his wife, Danielle Belluomini York, in May, according to court records.
