Bournemouth's head coach Marco Rose has expressed his satisfaction with the club's commitment to maintaining its core players while enhancing the squad as they gear up for a demanding season in both the Premier League and the Europa League.
Throughout the summer transfer window, Bournemouth faced significant interest in several of their standout players, including midfielder Alex Scott, who was linked to multiple clubs. Additionally, the Cherries had to navigate the potential departures of promising forwards Rayan and Eli Junior Kroupi. However, Rose is pleased that the club managed to retain its talented roster while also bringing in new talent ahead of their first foray into European competition.
“For me as a manager, it’s a big thanks to our owner that he observed things from a sporting point of view, because we need these kinds of players to be competitive in the Premier League and the Europa League,” Rose stated. He emphasized the importance of keeping their best players during what he described as a unique season, one that will feature more matches than the club is accustomed to.
“We signed top players. I think everyone sees that after two games. Antonio Silva has shown that he is able to play and compete in this league,” Rose added. He also noted that while new signing Juanlu is still adjusting to the team, he is encouraged by the overall quality and experience within the squad, which includes players with the potential for further development.
As Bournemouth prepares to face Newcastle in their next Premier League match, Rose took a moment to commend his counterpart, Matthias Jaissle. The two coaches have a history, having previously met during Rose's tenure at RB Salzburg. “I know Matthias from Salzburg,” Rose said. “I visited old friends at the training ground and we met and had a chat.”
He praised Jaissle's coaching abilities and the rapid implementation of his football philosophy at Newcastle. “They are in good shape and play with intensity. They have clear patterns with and without the ball,” Rose noted, highlighting the tactical threats posed by the Magpies, particularly their ability to create scoring opportunities through one-on-one situations.
Looking ahead to the match, Rose acknowledged the need for his team to defend well while also capitalizing on their own chances. “We have to take care and defend well. I think we will also get chances, and we have to use them,” he said.
Beyond their Premier League aspirations, Rose is also excited about leading Bournemouth in their inaugural European campaign. The Cherries are set to face formidable opponents in the Europa League, including a home match against AC Milan and an away game against Real Sociedad. “To play AC Milan at home is special,” he remarked. “To get Real Sociedad away, which is a tough start because they are a really good team with Spanish national team players.”
As the club embarks on this new chapter, Rose is aware of the importance of balancing their European ambitions with their primary focus on the Premier League. “On the other side, I feel that our main business is the Premier League, because that is how we qualified for Europe. We have to do our job and Newcastle is the next challenge,” he concluded.
