Move over, Barry Sanders. Make some room, Ty Cobb. Step back, Gordie Howe. Someone new is coming, ready to put his name into the annals of history among the pantheon of Detroit greats. And his name? Brooks Koepka.
According to a Wednesday morning tweet by none other than ESPN Senior NFL Insider Adam Schefter, Brooks has joined TGL’s first expansion franchise–the Motor City Golf Club (unironically a sick name)–ahead of the league’s third season. The five-time major champion is the team’s first player, and will take his talents to the SoFi Center when the 2027 season kicks off.
To be honest, I’m a little bit disappointed we didn’t get a “I’m taking my talents to South Beach,” LeBron-style television special out of Brooks. Feels like a missed opportunity.
Brooks and the Motor City Golf Club join TGL as the seventh team, on the back of two seasons that featured stingers through a cave, hooks and slices around a decrepit, apocalyptic bridge, a Jason Kelce v. Neal Shipley chug-off, and–somehow–Tiger Woods’ most recent public golf. Say what you will about TGL–I’d be the first to tell you it can be quite gimmicky–but it’s been a fun addition to an otherwise quiet period in golf. For sickos like us, there’s no such thing as too much golf to watch.
TGL’s third season is yet to be scheduled, but is likely to premiere sometime around the end of December, much like the 2026 season. More interesting names are sure to be added as the Motor City Golf Club gets filled out over the coming months and potentially more teams are added before 2028. Be sure to keep your eyes on Adam Schefter’s feed, apparently.
