Boston Bruins top prospect James Hagens took a nice step forward in his development last season. After posting 11 goals and 37 points in 37 games as a freshman at Boston College in 2024-25, he recorded 23 goals and 47 points in 34 games with the school this past season. He also got into his first NHL action after signing his entry-level deal following his BC season, where he recorded one assist in two games for the Bruins.
Overall, Hagens has been developing his game nicely. Although this is the case, he has shockingly dropped multiple spots in a new 2025 NHL re-draft.
The Athletic's Corey Pronman recently released a 2025 NHL re-draft, and Hagens was among the most questionable changes from it. Pronman dropped Hagens to the 12th spot in his 2025 NHL re-draft after the Bruins selected him 7th overall last summer.
Given the strong season Hagens just had, it is surprising to see him drop five spots in this new NHL mock draft. This is especially so when noting that he improved his game this season and only created more excitement about his future in Boston.
Among the players who Pronman moved ahead of Hagens in his re-draft were Jake O'Brien, Rogen McQueen, Kashawn Aitcheson, Jack Nesbitt, Joshua Ravensbergen, and Alexander Zharovsky. While these are all players with good upside, there is certainly an argument to be had that Hagens should not have been dropped so many spots after the season he just had. He only got better this past season, and it will be interesting to see what he can do in 2026-27 from here.
