The Tampa Bay Buccaneers received encouraging news on rookie pass rusher Reuben Bain Jr. after he suffered an AC joint sprain.
ESPN’s NFL analyst Adam Schefter reported that Bain’s injury is considered “nothing serious,” according to a source, and he is expected to play Week 1 against the Cincinnati Bengals. Tampa Bay visits Cincinnati on Sept. 13, giving Bain more than two weeks to recover.

Bain participated in Tuesday’s joint practice with the Jacksonville Jaguars but watched Wednesday’s session.
ESPN’s Ian Rapoport reacted with a “Sigh of relief for the promising pass rusher,” while Tampa Bay Times writer Rick Stroud said, “Something to monitor for sure.”
The injury matters because Tampa Bay expects Bain to play a major role immediately. The Buccaneers selected him 15th overall in the 2026 NFL Draft after his standout career at Miami.
Bain recorded 9.5 sacks and 15.5 tackles for loss in 2025. He also earned ACC Defensive Player of the Year honors and helped Miami reach the national championship game.

The timing of the injury provides some relief. An AC joint sprain can affect a pass rusher’s ability to engage blockers, but the current diagnosis gives Bain time to recover.
