BATTLE CREEK — The community has made its choice clear, and this year, it’s a double celebration for local athletes.

In an exciting new format, the Battle Creek Enquirer has introduced the Bronson Battle Creek Athletes of the Week, honoring both a boys and a girls winner. This initiative, presented by Bronson Battle Creek Hospital, aims to spotlight the exceptional talents of young athletes in the region.

For the week of August 22-29, Camden Bradley, a standout goaltender from the Lakeview boys soccer team, has been awarded the title of Boys Athlete of the Week. Bradley's performance was pivotal in leading his team to victory in the All-City Boys Soccer Tournament. His skills were particularly highlighted during the tense overtime shootouts in both the semifinals and finals, where his crucial saves secured the championship for Lakeview against Harper Creek.

Reflecting on his experience, Bradley shared, "That was my first shootout in that first game, and then, right away, I had my second shootout. It sends chills down your spine every time you make that save in a shootout." His contributions not only helped his team clinch the title but also showcased his ability to perform under pressure.

On the girls' side, Irelynn Sedore of the Pennfield volleyball team has been recognized as the Girls Athlete of the Week. Sedore achieved a remarkable milestone by recording her 1,000th career dig during the Cereal City Invitational. This significant achievement occurred in a match against Homer during pool play, where she demonstrated her prowess on the court with a total of 45 digs and 35 kills throughout the weekend, boasting a hitting percentage of 23.4%.

Pennfield coach Brooke Wells praised Sedore's dedication, stating, "Irelynn Sedore reaching 1000 career digs is a tremendous accomplishment and testament to her consistency, work ethic, and dedication over the last four years. As a four-year starter, she has been a cornerstone of our program, impacting every match with defensive excellence and game-changing offensive plays." Sedore's achievement not only highlights her individual talent but also her significant role in the success of the Pennfield volleyball program.

The Bronson Battle Creek Athlete of the Week program aims to encourage local athletes and recognize their hard work and achievements. Fans and community members are invited to participate by submitting nominees for future weeks by emailing bcesports@battlecreekenquirer.com.

This initiative not only celebrates individual accomplishments but also fosters a sense of community pride in local sports. As the season progresses, it will be exciting to see how other athletes rise to the occasion and make their mark.
