Carolina Panthers' Tetairoa McMillan Shares Offseason Transformation Ahead of 2026 Season

The Carolina Panthers are gearing up for the 2026 NFL season with a renewed sense of purpose following their NFC South title in 2025. Despite finishing the previous season with a modest 8-9 record, the Panthers managed to clinch the division crown through a tiebreaker over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This year, the team is determined to silence critics who question their ability to replicate their success and advance further in the playoffs.

Heading into the new season, the Panthers understand that key players must elevate their performance, particularly on the offensive side of the ball. Quarterback Bryce Young, who is under pressure to improve for both the team and his future with the franchise, will rely heavily on his supporting cast. One player poised to make a significant impact is wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan.

McMillan, who had an impressive rookie season and was honored with the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year award, has made a notable adjustment this offseason. He has added 20 pounds to his frame, aiming to return to the weight he carried during his successful college career at Arizona. This strategic move is intended to enhance his strength and speed, attributes that he believes will improve his performance on the field.

"In college when I was heavier, I was stronger, faster," McMillan stated during a press conference, highlighting the benefits he anticipates from his offseason training. The added muscle is expected to bolster his ability to compete against more physical defensive backs, which could be crucial for the Panthers' offensive strategy this season.

Moreover, McMillan has sensed a shift in the team's dynamics this offseason. He noted that the disappointment from their playoff loss to the Los Angeles Rams has fueled a collective motivation among the players. "You can feel it. Obviously, leaving that locker room, everybody was down. I feel like everybody's got that fire in them right now and is just ready to go," he expressed, underscoring the team's desire to bounce back stronger.

The Panthers will kick off their 2026 campaign on September 13th, facing off against the Chicago Bears in their home opener. This matchup will feature two NFC division winners from the previous season and serves as a significant early test for head coach Dave Canales and his squad. As the Panthers prepare for the challenges ahead, McMillan's offseason transformation and the team's renewed focus could play pivotal roles in their quest for success.
