The fall sports season in District 10 has kicked off with excitement as Cathedral Prep and Seneca athletes have been recognized in the first Erie Times-News Seaway Window and AHN Sports Medicine athlete of the week polls. Leading the charge is Tucker Palotas, who made headlines with a standout performance in his team’s season opener.
Palotas, a key player for the Cathedral Prep football team, showcased his skills with a remarkable 31-yard fumble return for a touchdown, contributing significantly to his team’s victory. His impressive performance garnered him 49 votes, securing the top spot among the football nominees in District 10. In contrast, Fort LeBoeuf’s Aiden Struchen finished in second place with just five votes, highlighting Palotas's dominance in this week’s voting.
In addition to Palotas, Cathedral Prep also saw success in the female athlete category with Peyton Rodgers emerging as the winner. The talented soccer player, who has committed to the University of New Hampshire, received seven votes, outpacing Fort LeBoeuf golfer Cassidy Conn, who garnered four votes. This recognition underscores the strong start for Cathedral Prep's athletic programs this season.
Seneca High School's Josiah Zasada also made his mark by winning the male athlete poll for the week. Although he received only four votes, it was enough to secure the top position among his peers. Zasada's achievement reflects the competitive spirit and talent present in District 10's soccer scene.
The Erie Times-News, along with Seaway Window and AHN Sports Medicine, will continue to conduct these athlete of the week polls throughout the fall sports season, which runs until early November. Each week, the male and female athlete ballots will be available online from Monday at 5 a.m. until Wednesday at 5 p.m., allowing fans to participate in recognizing outstanding performances.
Fans are encouraged to suggest nominees for future polls by emailing sports@timesnews.com, providing details about the player, school, sport, and specific accomplishments that merit nomination. However, it is important to note that once an athlete wins a poll, they are ineligible for nomination for the remainder of the fall season.
