Charlotte High School is preparing to celebrate its latest inductees into the Athletic Hall of Fame, highlighting the achievements of former athletes and community members who have made significant contributions to the school's sports legacy. The induction ceremony is scheduled for September 25-26, marking an important occasion for the school and its supporters.
Among the six athletes being honored this year are Rob Dickson and Toby Dickson, both of whom are celebrated state champion wrestlers. Rob Dickson graduated in 1997, while Toby Dickson is a more recent graduate from the class of 2020. Their accomplishments in wrestling have left a lasting impact on the school’s athletic program, showcasing the depth of talent that Charlotte High School has produced over the years.
In addition to the Dickson brothers, the Hall of Fame class includes Gail Robert Cheney, a standout track athlete, and Dennis Hall, who earned all-state honors in football. Beth Malcuit, an all-state golfer, and Robert "Bobby" Horton, another all-state track performer, round out the list of athletes being recognized for their exceptional achievements in their respective sports.
The induction ceremony will also honor longtime wrestling coach Bill Simpson, whose dedication to the sport has inspired countless young athletes at Charlotte High School. Furthermore, the undefeated football teams from 1944 and 1948 will be celebrated for their remarkable seasons, which have become a significant part of the school's athletic history.
Community members Annette and Mike Bruce, Jennifer Bruce Lamoreaux, and Mike Snyder will also be inducted, recognizing their contributions beyond the athletic field. Their involvement has helped foster a strong support system for the school’s athletic programs, emphasizing the importance of community engagement in youth sports.
The unveiling of the Hall of Fame plaques is set for 5:30 p.m. on September 25, taking place at the high school. This event will precede the recognition of the inductees at the homecoming football game, creating a festive atmosphere for both current students and alumni. The formal induction ceremony will follow at 6:30 p.m. on September 26 at the Charlotte Performing Arts Center, providing a fitting tribute to the honorees and their contributions to Charlotte High School.
