The Kansas City Chiefs already have high expectations for their 2026 rookie class, but Peter Woods is quickly emerging as one of the names to watch.
The defensive tackle, selected with Kansas City’s second first-round pick, has impressed during camp despite suffering an ankle injury shortly before the preseason opener.
Woods arrived in Kansas City after playing his college football at Clemson, and his athleticism has already caught the attention of those watching the Chiefs closely.
ESPN’s Nate Taylor described his start to camp as ‘stellar’, highlighting the rookie’s athleticism, power and quickness.

Woods is not currently projected to start. Instead, Taylor expects him to contribute as a rotational defender, particularly on third-down snaps.
That could put Woods in an ideal position next to Chris Jones, who regularly attracts double teams from opposing offences.
The Chiefs believe the rookie can take advantage of those one-on-one opportunities and create pressure on the quarterback.
Woods is not the only rookie making an impression, either.
First-round cornerback Mansoor Delane missed a large portion of fully padded practices while recovering from a shoulder injury, but he impressed during his preseason debut against the Buccaneers’ starters.
Delane is expected to replace All-Pro Trent McDuffie, who was traded to the Rams this offseason, and is projected to start against the Broncos in Week 1.

He has reportedly performed well in camp and shown the ability to pressure quarterbacks with a variety of moves.
There will still be a learning curve once the regular season begins. However, Woods, Delane and Thomas have all given the Chiefs plenty of reason to be encouraged about their rookie class.
