Hirving “Chucky” Lozano got himself on the scoresheet for the first time with the LA Galaxy on Saturday — against his former club, no less.
Lozano, who joined the Galaxy on loan after spending the opening months of the season on the sidelines with San Diego FC, made his second start for his new team at his old stomping grounds of Snapdragon Stadium.
His emotions were obvious as he scored to cut San Diego’s lead to 2-1.
San Diego's flagship signing and first-ever Designated Player, Lozano was a key piece of the Chrome-and-Azul's historic 2025 MLS expansion campaign, producing 12g/11a between the regular season and Audi MLS Cup Playoffs.
But the longtime Mexican international had spent most of this season on the sidelines after SDFC head coach Mikey Varas and sporting director Tyler Heaps confirmed in January that he wasn't in the club’s plans following disciplinary issues late last season.
San Diego loaned him out to their Western Conference rivals earlier this month. On Saturday, he exacted revenge with a quality finish into the bottom corner.
Lozano set up Kyōgo Furuhashi's apparent equalizer six minutes after his strike, but the goal was called back following Video Review for a Lozano foul.
Despite Lozano’s goal, the Galaxy eventually fell 3-1 to San Diego. Amid a tight Western Conference playoff race, they will look to rebound next Saturday at home against the New England Revolution (9:30 pm ET | Apple TV).
