Cleveland Browns 53-man roster cuts tracker

The Cleveland Browns have until Sunday at 6:00 PM ET to make roster cuts and announce their initial 53-man roster. Some of those cuts or rumors about roster moves might leak early, though. The Browns may also announce them in waves — for example, some cuts may be announced Friday, some on Saturday, etc.

All players who are released with less than four years of service must go through waivers and are eligible to be claimed by any other team until 1:00 PM ET on Monday. After that, any unclaimed player can be signed and teams will begin to fill out their 16-man practice squads.

Veterans with more than four years of service can sign immediately after being released.

Browns Roster Cuts Live BlogSaturday (August 29, 2026)

7:30 AM: Reminder that the Browns are scheduled to practice today, with players speaking to the media at 11 AM, with Todd Monken following at 11:50 before the 12:15 practice. It would be somewhat strange, unless there was some secret plan with a player or two, for more than 53 players to be practicing today. Then again, Monken can do what he wants until the players are cut. Would also be risking injuries for players who are going to get cut and could sign elsewhere. Just seems unlikely, so stayed tuned here to the tracker all morning!

3:36 PM: By my count, the Browns are now down to 73 players, meaning they have 20 moves remaining to get down to 53 players by Sunday at 6:00 pm ET. I’m not sure if there will be any more moves today, but my current guess is that the remaining moves will be announced tomorrow. What you might start hearing, before that official news release, are players’ agents leaking that “so-and-so has been informed that they have made the 53-man roster,” or some sources indicating that a particular player has been notified that they’ll be cut.

Going back to the first batch of cuts below, none of them are a surprise. Avery was a guy on my 53-man roster, but he was meant to be a temporary placeholder due to injury concerns; I did not expect him to be a long-term player on the roster.

3:25 PM: We have our first batch of Browns cuts: 16 moves in total (4 contracts terminated, 12 players waived).

The terminated players are TE Jack Stoll (from IR), OT Tyre Phillips, CB Tre Avery, and CB Tyler Hall.

The players waived are WR Ben Patterson, TE Jermaine Terry II, TE Drew Biber, OT Jeremiah Byers, OT Izavion Miller, DT Coziah Izzard, DT Patrick Jenkins, DE Jamil Muhammad, CB Jeremiah McClendon, CB Nate Evans, S Christopher Edmonds, and P Nik Constantinou.

1:24 PM: Not a reportable rumor as I don’t have a second source, but enough to at least share here as a keep-your-eyes-out kinda thing. I’ve heard that the Falcons and Chargers at least discussed a Tua trade, which could open up a spot for Dillon Gabriel in Atlanta (just as everyone joked/expected when Kevin Stefanski was hired there). – Jared

10:15 AM: Regarding the timing of the Browns’ roster cuts, Jared Mueller made a good point on one of our site’s internal communications. Head coach Todd Monken is scheduled to talk to the media at 11:00 AM ET on Saturday, with practice to follow at 12:15 PM on Saturday.

It seems highly likely that the Browns will have their 53-man roster decided by then. I’ve never heard of a case where the team keeps players around for one more practice in between making their final roster cuts.

10:02 AM: Good morning, everyone! I posted my 53-man roster projection this morning. There were plenty of tough decisions at quarterback, wide receiver, tight end, and cornerback. With these potential roster cuts, news could literally hit any time between now and Sunday evening. Typically, Andrew Berry does not wait through the deadline to make cuts. We’ll keep you posted on any Browns-related news that comes in, as well as other cuts around the league.

One thing to keep in mind is that the final preseason games in general takes place today, as only a few games took place Thursday evening. In general, you likely won’t see league-wide news about roster cuts until Saturday.

12:00 AM: The Browns just finished their third and final preseason game, beating the New England Patriots by a score of 37-13. We already heard about one big roster cut on Thursday morning, as reports indicated that Cleveland was waiving WR Cedric Tillman. Tillman was going to be a cut on my 53-man roster projection anyway, due to the way things have unfolded in camp this year and the impressive nature of rookies KC Concepcion and Denzel Boston.
