Confirmed: Liverpool to hold medical today; Agreement reached

Liverpool will hold a medical today. An agreement has been reached and now a deal will go through.

There are only a couple of days left in the transfer window, making this a massive time for Liverpool. The Reds haven't sorted their squad out and actually have a lot of business to get through before the close of play here.

Will they sign a midfielder? Will they sign a right-winger? Will they sign a full-back? We highly doubt all three will be a 'yes'. In fact, it seems unlikely that even two get the go-ahead.

They will sign a left-winger, though. That much is all-but certain as Bradley Barcola is set to arrive for a medical on Sunday.

It was initially thought that the winger would have that medical on Saturday but, for whatever reason, things have been put off until Sunday. There certainly isn’t any sense that Barcola won’t join Liverpool - it’s just a short waiting game.

But Fabrice Hawkins, who has been correct every step of the way throughout this deal, says the medical will happen today. Barcola will be in Liverpool for it, before signing a five-year contract.

It’s brilliant news for Liverpool, who desperately needed to add elite quality in attack. Though, it’s coming at the cost of Cody Gakpo, who looks near-certain to join Manchester City at this stage.

That’s a risk, without question. Liverpool intend to lose one of their senior players in order to give Barcola the biggest role of his career so far. And they’ll take a large loss to do it.

But the club hopes that their new man is a better fit - and the kind of player who can help get the most out of Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak, something Gakpo has failed to do.
