Conor Bradley to Miss Remainder of 2023 After Knee Surgery

Conor Bradley, the Liverpool defender, is expected to be sidelined for the remainder of 2023 as he continues his recovery from a significant knee injury. The injury, which he sustained during a match against Arsenal in early January, required surgery to repair extensive damage to both bone and ligaments.

Since the injury, Bradley has been on a long road to recovery. He was spotted this summer engaging in an individual rehabilitation program at Liverpool's AXA Training Centre. Although he was included in the squad for the preseason tour to the United States, he has yet to return to full training with the team.

Liverpool's manager, Andoni Iraola, provided an update on Bradley's condition, indicating that the right-back is still some time away from rejoining his teammates in training. This news comes as Northern Ireland prepares for upcoming international fixtures, with head coach Michael O'Neill confirming that Bradley will not be available for the extended international break later this month or for matches scheduled in November.

O'Neill expressed understanding regarding the timeline of Bradley's recovery, stating, "Conor is where I expected him to be. I knew the injury was going to take longer than maybe some people were thinking. He’s making good progress, but it has to be managed very, very carefully, given the nature of the injury." The Northern Ireland coach also acknowledged Bradley's recent personal milestone, as he has recently become a father, adding another layer of responsibility to the player's life.

While there is a possibility that Bradley could return before the end of the year, O'Neill expressed a cautious optimism. When asked if he could remain unavailable for the rest of 2023, he replied, "I think I’m comfortable with that. If we see him this side of Christmas, it will be a real bonus, but if not, then we look forward to March for the international games." This statement underscores the importance of a careful recovery process for Bradley, who has been a key player for Northern Ireland.

As Northern Ireland prepares for their upcoming matches without their captain, the team will need to adapt and find ways to fill the void left by Bradley's absence. His leadership and defensive skills will certainly be missed on the pitch, but the focus will remain on ensuring he returns to full fitness before rejoining the squad.
