The NFL season is starting, and that means it's time to panic, for certain NFL teams, at least. There are certainly a handful of franchises that have a lot to lose this year. So, where do the Detroit Lions fall?
The Lions have a lot to panic about. They had Super Bowl expectations not long ago, but they've really fallen hard and fast. If something doesn't happen this season that's good, it could get ugly.
Brad Gagnon of Bleacher Report has a feature out ranking each of the NFL teams on a "panic meter" going into the new season. "In an era when endless entertainment is one swipe away, nobody wants to wait out a multi-year rebuild—unless there's a clear light at the end of the tunnel," he says.
Lions' panic meter is at 10/10For the Lions, he has their panic meter at 10/10. It doesn't get higher than that.
"I get the feeling that if it doesn't happen this year, major changes could be coming to a team that is far too talented to have one playoff win in the last two seasons," he says in the piece. That's scary stuff, but it makes sense. The pressure is on Dan Campbell and the Lions to deliver.
Looking at the rest of the NFC North, he has the Lions' panic meter way higher than the rest. The only one that comes close is the Green Bay Packers with 5/10, with him explaining, "I wonder if Micah Parsons' injury takes some of the edge off for a fanbase that may realize it is not a top-tier contender and faces a challenging campaign in a tough division. The coaching staff and the core aren't going anywhere."
