GREENEVILLE, Tenn. (WJHL) — Tusculum snapped a nine-game losing streak with a 42-7 season-opening victory over visiting Bluefield State. The Pioneers capitalized on four forced turnovers, converting each into a touchdown to build a 42-0 halftime lead.
Highlights included a 43-yard touchdown pass from Tedros Gleaton to Ashton Hagans, a 53-yard punt return touchdown by Hagans, and a school-record 100-yard interception return for a touchdown by Justin Thomas. Gleaton led the ground attack with 74 yards as Tusculum rushed for 222 total yards. Defensively, Greg Williams led the team with seven tackles, while kicker Max Turan went a perfect 6-for-6 on extra points.
Bluefield State avoided the shutout with a one-yard touchdown run by Brandon Wiley with three seconds left in the game. Derek Binder led the visitors with 58 rushing yards. Tusculum plays at ETSU next Saturday for their first meeting in 76 years.
