Detroit Lions sign former Cowboys, Chiefs CB ahead of preseason finale

Ahead of its preseason finale and then roster cuts, the Detroit Lions inked former Dallas Cowboys and Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Eric Scott Jr. to its 90-man roster. Scott is a 6-foot, 197-pound corner.

Scott was drafted by the Cowboys in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft. While he's yet to make his NFL debut, Scott may get the chance to impress and put some tape together in the Lions' final preseason game on Saturday at the Indianapolis Colts.

Whether it's with Detroit or another NFL franchise, a strong showing on Saturday against the Colts would set Scott up to potentially make a 53-man roster or an NFL practice squad.

Inactive throughout his 2023 rookie year, Scott was waived by Dallas near the end of training camp, then claimed by Kansas City, where he joined the Chiefs' 2024 practice squad. Unfortunately for Scott, he suffered an injury that forced him to the injured reserve near the end of training camp and cost him the entire 2025 season with the Chiefs.

Scott made the Cowboys roster entering his rookie season, but he never saw the field and was declared inactive each game. In 2024, the Cowboys waived Scott near the end of training camp. The Chiefs claimed Scott off waivers and he ended up on Kansas City's practice squad in 2024.

Then, an undisclosed injury forced Scott to the Chiefs' injured reserve in 2025.

Scott began his college career at Illinois State, transferred to Butler Community College, and finished at Southern Mississippi. Scott totaled four interceptions and 11 passes defended while at Southern Mississippi.

In its corresponding move, the Lions placed EDGE Payton Turner on injured reserve, ending his 2026 season before it ever began.

Kickoff between the Lions and Colts on Saturday is set for 1 p.m. ET on the NFL Network.
