The Philadelphia Eagles have started making the difficult decisions required to finalize their initial 53-man roster.
Philadelphia is waiving wide receiver Samori Toure, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. The move comes one day after the Eagles completed their preseason with a 30-13 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. Toure caught one pass for 9 yards on two targets during Philadelphia’s preseason finale. He also contributed on special teams during the summer but could not separate himself in one of the roster’s most crowded position groups.
The former Green Bay Packers seventh-round pick signed with Philadelphia in June after previously playing under Eagles offensive coordinator Sean Mannion in Green Bay. Toure appeared in 22 games during his first two NFL seasons, recording 13 receptions for 160 yards and one touchdown.
Toure faced a difficult path to the roster behind DeVonta Smith, Hollywood Brown, Dontayvion Wicks and first-round pick Makai Lemon. Darius Cooper’s strong training camp also strengthened his standing, while Elijah Moore, Britain Covey, Quez Watkins and others competed for the remaining positions.
The move removes one player from that crowded competition, but Philadelphia still has several decisions to make at wide receiver. Toure will be subject to waivers and can be claimed by another team before becoming a free agent.
