Everton have started the season a bit beyond expectation with two impressive wins to go. Crystal Palace are enduring a miserable start to the season, with the Toffees starting their slide last weekend. Next came a comfortable dispatching of Championship side Preston in the Carabao Cup second round.
The aura of pessimism is not so easily dispelled, especially given how little the squad has been built up over a long summer transfer window which is rapidly coming to a close, and still huge gaps exist in the squad even as rumours continue to spread of possible departures of key names like Iliman Ndiaye and Jake O’Brien.
AFC Bournemouth found out their Europa League fixtures yesterday, and will have to contend with extra games to play with a retooled squad under new manager Marco Rose, formerly of Red Bull Salzburg, Borussia Dortmund, and RB Leipzig. Andoni Iraola’s successor is stylistically similar but plays his own brand of football, starting the season off with a close loss at Manchester City, giving up a lead late in the game and conceding twice late on.
Everton’s injury situation remains about the same with Hayden Hackney out with a minor tweak, but the news is worse for new signing Christian Norgaard who is yet to make an appearance and with David Moyes indicating that there was going to be a while before he returned to training.
James Garner came through unscathed against Preston midweek, and might have to go again today. Tyrique George should return to the starting side after his showing last weekend and then again midweek. Will Ndiaye okay though? If he’s held out then his departure to City is pretty much confirmed.

Last MeetingIn both games last season the away side came away victorious with a narrow one-goal win. Jack Grealish’s goal was enough to win at the Vitality in December, but a couple of months later at the Hill Dickinson, they led from a Ndiaye penalty but gave up two quick goals at the hour mark before Jake O’Brien got sent off and with that ended any chance of a comeback.
