Fabrizio Romano confirms £50m Liverpool offer for new African forward

Liverpool have come up short in their attempts to sign Yankuba Minteh.

Brighton are simply asking too much money for the 22-year-old Gambian international - who in any case will be out injured for the next few months.

Richard Hughes sent an opening offer of £50m for the Seagulls’ forward - which was immediately rejected.

The Reds sporting director tried again with a bid worth £60m - which also got the treatment - but for a while it looked as though a deal was likely at £70m.

But the South Coast side have pulled the rug and jacked Minteh’s price up to £80m.

Andoni Iraola’s side are reeling from that valuation - walking away from the deal because it no longer makes financial sense. It now looks as though the Merseysiders are moving on to other options.

Because Fabrizio Romano has confirmed Liverpool are in talks with Crystal Palace over a deal for Ismaila Sarr.

An opening offer for the forward has been sent - at £50m - with the Senegal international under contract until 2029 at Selhurst Park.

The Italian transfer supremo claims the 28-year-old IS aware of the interest from Anfield and would like the chance to get a move to Liverpool.

“Move follows Minteh deal called off due to Brighton requests.

Sarr has made a habit out of scoring against Liverpool - firstly for Watford and again for the Eagles after joining from Marseille in 2024.

In all he has netted 7 times in 10 matches versus the Reds - including two in the EFL Cup win at Anfield last season.

This transfer saga surely has more to run with Palace well aware of Liverpool’s needs in attack.

While it doesn’t satisfy the criteria of an out-and-out winger like a Barcola or a Minteh it certainly promises to help Iraola in attack in a variety of positions including the right side.
