With the NFL season just around the corner, fantasy football enthusiasts are gearing up for their drafts, making it an ideal time to identify potential breakout stars. Each year, the ability to spot young talent on the verge of a significant leap can be the key to fantasy championships.
This week, I’ll be highlighting some of my favorite breakout candidates at crucial fantasy positions, starting with tight ends. Among the players to watch are Colston Loveland of the Chicago Bears and Tyler Warren of the Indianapolis Colts, both of whom are entering their sophomore seasons.
Colston Loveland had an impressive rookie campaign, finishing as the TE18 in fantasy points per game. He recorded 58 receptions for 713 yards and six touchdowns. Notably, he surged during the latter part of the fantasy season, ranking as the fifth highest-scoring tight end over the final nine weeks. Loveland's ability to become a focal point in the Bears' passing attack was evident as he posted impressive stat lines, including performances of 6 catches for 94 yards and a touchdown, and 10 catches for 91 yards and another score in critical games, including two playoff appearances.
Loveland's performance in the final stretch, where he accumulated 48 targets in those last four games, speaks volumes about his potential. With his current draft position as the third tight end off the board, he is seen as a strong contender to challenge established players like Brock Bowers and Trey McBride for the top fantasy scoring title among tight ends this season.
On the other hand, Tyler Warren is also set for a breakout season, albeit with a slightly lower draft cost. As a rookie, Warren was the TE6 in fantasy points per game through Week 10 before injuries and a quarterback change hindered his performance. With the departure of Michael Pittman Jr. to the Pittsburgh Steelers and Alec Pierce recovering from an ankle injury, Warren has a prime opportunity to become a key target for the Colts this year.
Warren led the Colts in targets during his rookie season with 112, showcasing his ability to be a primary receiving option. As the Colts adapt to a new offensive strategy, Warren’s skills could be crucial, especially if the team’s quarterback opts for quick passes due to mobility concerns post-injury. His ability to gain yards after the catch, evidenced by his ranking among the top tight ends in this category, makes him a valuable asset in fantasy leagues.
Additionally, other tight ends to keep an eye on include Isaiah Likely of the New York Giants and Chig Okonkwo of the Washington Commanders. Likely is expected to have an expanded role after moving from the Baltimore Ravens, while Okonkwo, despite a crowded receiving corps, has shown flashes of potential that could lead to a breakout performance.
As fantasy managers prepare for the upcoming season, keeping tabs on these young tight ends could provide a significant advantage in securing valuable points in the tight end position. With Loveland and Warren leading the charge, the 2026 season promises to be an exciting one for fantasy football enthusiasts.
