Fernando Mendoza is out of tonight's final preseason game. He's probably out of the starting quarterback competition for now, too.
Mendoza followed Kirk Cousins, who led the Raiders to two Matt Gay field goals on his two drives against the 49ers' backups.
Mendoza, the No. 1 overall pick, entered the game with 56 seconds left in the first quarter and sat down with 28 seconds left in the third.
His second pass sailed high to Jalen Nailor, and Tatum Bethune intercepted it.
Mendoza went 7-of-14 for 57 yards with the interception and took two sacks. In five drives, he directed the Raiders to 84 yards on 32 plays. The Raiders scored three points on Mendoza's drives, with Gay making a 45-yard field goal and missing a 54-yard field goal.
Mendoza ended the preseason 25-for-45 for 240 yards, a touchdown, two interceptions and four sacks. He did not appear to challenge the veteran Cousins for the job but still could find himself starting at some point this season.
