Harold Landry's return for the New England Patriots' regular season opener against the Seattle Seahawks could be in jeopardy.

According to the New England Football Journal's Kevin Stone, there is a "growing lack of optimism" that Landry will be ready to return in time for the start of the season.

"Sources have told me while he continues to try & work his way back, there’s a growing lack of optimism around the progress being made so far. Week 1 seems like a long shot & there isn’t much of a timetable as of now," Stone wrote about Landry on X.

Landry, who missed all of training camp, led the Patriots with 8.5 sacks last season.

There are already major questions about the team's edge rush, and not having Landry on the field for the first game would be a serious blow. He suffered a knee injury mid-season and played through it initially. He missed the final two games of the regular season, the divisional playoff round and the AFC Championship Game. He was able to play through his injury during Super Bowl LX, but he underwent surgery this offseason.

If Landry is out in Week 1, the team would have to turn to Dre'Mont Jones, Elijah Ponder, Gabe Jacas, Bradyn Swinson and Quintayvious Hutchins to rush the passer.
