Here’s some interesting former Philadelphia Eagles player news: the Green Bay Packers are sending Kyle McCord to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for a sixth-round pick in the 2028 NFL Draft.
Last year at this time, the Eagles waived McCord after both he and Dorian Thompson-Robinson failed to win a training camp battle to be Philadelphia’s third quarterback. The Birds ended up trading for Sam Howell to be their third option behind Jalen Hurts and Tanner McKee. They brought back McCord on the practice squad.
Following the 2025 season, the Eagles did not re-sign McCord to a futures contract as they did with most of their practice squad players. McCord instead joined the Green Bay Packers. It’s unclear if Philly made an offer for him to stay and McCord preferred going elsewhere, though one would think the Mount Laurel, New Jersey native — who grew up as an Eagles fan — would have wanted to stay local.
In any case, McCord went to the Packers and lit it up for Green Bay this preseason:
You could argue that no one had a better preseason for the Green Bay Packers than quarterback Kyle McCord, who was able to put up a 102.4 passer rating after completing 46 of 70 passes for 446 yards and four touchdowns. McCord had a fairly quick rise in Green Bay, as he was battling for the third quarterback job as recently as the preseason opener.
For whatever it’s worth (or not), Pro Football Focus graded McCord third out of 79 quarterbacks this summer.
The Dolphins are reuniting McCord with former Eagles offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo, who now holds a passing game coordinator title in Miami. McCord is expected to be the top backup behind free agent signing Malik Willis, another former Packer.
In addition to the former Eagles connections, this move is relevant to Philly because there was some thought going around that the Fins made sense as a trade partner for either Tanner McKee or Andy Dalton. That clearly won’t be happening now.
But if McCord went for a 2028 sixth-round pick, it does beg to question what the Eagles might be able to get for one of their backups. More, less … anything at all?
