Former Woodland standout Tanner Kingsley joins MIT football staff as offensive coordinator

Former Woodland football standout Tanner Kingsley was only out of a job for less than four months.

In late April, Anna Maria College announced it would close permanently at the end of the spring 2026 semester, and that meant Kingsley, the school's head football coach, was out of work. Fast-forward to the present, and Kingsley is now the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology football team.

"New 🏠. New opportunity. Day 1 of camp tomorrow, ready to go! @MITFootball #RollTech," Kingsley said in a message on X on Aug. 11.

MIT is led by head coach Brian Bubna and posted a 6-3 record last season, including a 4-3 mark in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference. The Engineers won four straight games to close the season and averaged 27.8 points per contest.

It's been quite the journey for Kingsley, one of the most prolific high school quarterbacks in Connecticut history. He went on to play for Central Connecticut State University and Anna Maria before joining the coaching ranks. Kingsley became the quarterbacks coach at AMC under former head coach Dan Mulrooney in 2021. He was the offensive coordinator under former head coach Steve Croce before taking over the top position for 2025.

The closure of Anna Maria hit everyone hard, including Kingsley.

"Being the Head Coach of @AMCAT_Football has been an honor. The relationships built over the last 5 years I will cherish forever. We were in year 2 of the build. Coming off a championship in our first season in the @mascacsports conference. Doing something no one thought we could," Kingsley said on X on April 24. "We tied a program record for wins and set the longest win streak in school history. 

"To the guys I coached over the years, I hope I made half the impact on your lives that you've made on mine. I got love for every single one of you. To the seniors, thank you for buying into a young coach and a new standard." 

Kingsley now has a chance to start making an impact again as a coach, something he has loved doing since Mulrooney first gave him the chance when he was 23 years old.
