The New York Giants have seen some big changes on the defensive side of the ball in the last couple of seasons, but one of the biggest moves was the trade of Dexter Lawrence II.
Despite trying to improve the defense, the Giants got worse up front amid a contract standoff. They got the No. 10 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft for Lawrence, which wasn't a bad return. But this Giants' defense still needs defensive help, and not just at DT.
That's why Alex Kay of Bleacher Report proposed a trade idea where the Giants send a 2027 second- and sixth-round pick to the Pittsburgh Steelers in exchange for star cornerback Joey Porter Jr.

"Adding Joey Porter Jr. into the mix would massively improve the secondary and give Big Blue the elite defensive back it needs to contend with the talented NFC East wideouts it is set to come up against in 2026."
Porter would be a huge upgrade at cornerback for the Giants, as their current options in Paulson Adebo and Greg Newsome II are far from locks for the starting lineup.
Deonte Banks, Colton Hood, and nickel corners Dru Phillips and Ar'Darius Washington make up the main depth at cornerback.
This isn't a terrible group, but adding someone like Porter would give them a true No. 1 option to help shut down the elite wide receivers in the NFC East.
CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens, DeVonta Smith, and Terry McLaurin are not easy matchups for the Giants, especially with Newsome and Adebo.

Porter is 26 years old and in the final year of his rookie deal. He's seeking a massive new extension, and the Giants could swing a deal to land the star cornerback who's had an interception every year of his career so far, along with 31 total passes defended.
Most impressively, though, for Porter is that he's allowed no better than an 82.7 passer rating in coverage, with this past season a remarkably low 57.2 passer rating when targeted.
Adding Porter would give the Giants a true shutdown option on defense. While it would create a bit more depth than they need at cornerback, they could then look to trade someone to get some draft capital back.
This trade idea would be expensive for the Giants, and could only occur if they have a contract extension with Porter in place and ready to go.
If they could make such a thing happen, this would be a nice move for New York as they aim to return to the playoffs for the first time since Daniel Jones led them there in 2022.
