Golf Channel hires Jim Furyk as full-time lead analyst

After a successful trial run throughout the 2026 season, Jim Furyk is making a full-time transition into the broadcast booth.

The 2003 U.S. Open champion and 17-time PGA Tour winner will reportedly join Golf Channel and USA Sports under a multiyear agreement that will make him the lead analyst on their PGA Tour and major championship coverage beginning in 2027, per Josh Carpenter in Sports Business Journal. Furyk worked select events for Golf Channel and USA Sports this season, including the U.S. Open and Open Championship. He’ll close out the season by contributing to Golf Channel’s coverage of the Tour Championship this weekend.

Furyk will step in for what has been a rotating core of analysts at Golf Channel recently, mostly filled by Curt Byrum, Notah Begay, and Smylie Kaufman. In addition to working in the booth, Furyk will also contribute to Golf Channel’s Live From studio show at the Masters.

Furyk was first given a trial in the broadcast booth in March alongside Golf Channel play-by-play voice Terry Gannon at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. He followed that up with an appearance at The Players Championship the next week, and sprinkled in some other PGA Tour events throughout the rest of the season. Reviews of Furyk’s broadcasting performances have been generally positive, and he certainly has enough name recognition among golf fans to hold down a lead analyst spot.

Golf Channel typically airs afternoon coverage of events during the first and second rounds, and then will air lead-in coverage during the third and final rounds before the PGA Tour’s broadcast partners at either NBC or CBS take over. USA Sports is also a heavy presence at two majors — the U.S. Open and Open Championship — contributing many hours of live coverage to both events.

Beyond his broadcasting duties, Furyk will serve as the U.S. Ryder Cup captain next year as the Americans attempt to reclaim the cup at Adare Manor in Ireland.
