The Green Bay Packers face a major question mark at running back after the NFL levied an important decision regarding Josh Jacobs on Sunday.
The Packers star was recently charged with two misdemeanors, but the news could be worse for Green Bay. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell reveals that Jacobs is being placed on the commissioner exempt list in 2026, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
That puts head coach Matt LeFleur and the Packers in a precarious position entering the season. Green Bay only boasts unproven options at the RB spot, including Chris Brooks and Marshawn Lloyd.
However, it’s unclear what Jacobs’ future could look like as the NFL investigates his off-field situation.

The commissioners exempt list doesn’t specify a length in time in which Jacobs could potentially miss. However, his pending legal troubles don’t bode well for an NFC franchise looking to make a playoff run.
Green Bay’s been relying on the former Las Vegas Raiders running back since acquiring him in 2024. The former first-round pick has posted over 1,000 rushing yards on four different occasions in his career.

Now, LeFleur and the Packers must examine all options at the RB slot with just two weeks to go before the 2026 campaign. Jacobs has only missed two games in his two seasons thus far with Green Bay.
